Mother Nature forced a venue change for the Annual Veterans Day Program from Veterans Park in downtown Frankfort to the Frankfort VFW at 309 W. Main Street.

Outside of that, things couldn’t have been better as the program was held in the back room where dinners and food is usually served.

“Clinton County has been home to veterans from US wars and military conflicts since 1917,” said Frankfort Mayor Judy Sheets. “Approximately 1,750 veterans call Clinton County home. So many of the freedoms we enjoy are a result of the sacrifice, determination and strength of the veterans in our community.”

Following the program, Sheets was asked what she hoped who attended took from her address.

“I just hope that the people really listen to what I said today,” said Sheets. “We should be grateful every day. Veterans Day is a special day set aside that every day we should be thankful and grateful for our veterans. I want them to know that the community does care about them, they support them and we’re always here for them.”

In addition to honoring veterans, first responders were also honored.

“I think that’s wonderful,” said Sheets. “I mean, our veterans, this is a day that we’re honoring them and showing our support and love. But also our first responders are very important part of our community.”

Following the program, soup and sandwiches were served at the VFW followed by dinner at the American Legion Post 12 for a vet and one guest.
