Randal “Randy” L. Sparks, 68, of rural Frankfort, passed away on Friday, November 12, 2021, at his residence. He was born in Jeffersonville, Indiana on January 8, 1953, to Woody Sparks and Helen (Bex) Swihart. He married Catherine “Cathy” (Canedy) Sparks; she preceded him in death on January 15, 2017.
Randy was a graduate of Frankfort Senior High School. Sparky, the name he acquired during his years as a fire fighter, was a retired captain; serving the Frankfort community from February 10, 1974, until the day he retired on April 24, 2008. He also worked for Neal Farms while working at the FFD. After retirement, he was custodian at Clinton Prairie Schools. Throughout life, Randy also enjoyed camping in his RV.
Survivors include his mother, Helen; sons, Brian Sparks of Kirklin and Brad Pickard of rural Frankfort; stepson, John (Brooke) Davis of Mulberry; six grandchildren, Shelby, Kaleb, David, Kyle, Kody, and Jameson; and one sister, Janet (Terry) Vertrees of Frankfort.
He is preceded in death by his father, Woody Sparks, and stepfather, George Swihart. .
Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the start of the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 17, 2021, at Genda Funeral Home in Frankfort with Greg Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the Bunnell Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Randy’s honor may be made to the Local Fire Firefighter Union #705 Scholarship Fund.
