Retiring Clinton Central Superintendent Ralph Walker congratulates Al Remaly on being named as the new superintendent at Clinton Central.

The Clinton Central School Corporation named Al Remaly as its new superintendent Monday night replacing Ralph Walker, who is retiring in June after three years and three months as the corporation’s superintendent.

Remaly, who has been the principal at Clinton Central High School for the past three years, said he is thrilled with the opportunity.

“I’m super excited to be here as superintendent at Clinton Central,” said Remaly. “When I came here three years ago, that was the plan to try to take over when Mr. Walker retired and here we are.”

Prior to his stint at Clinton Central, Remaly had been a principal at Rossville and an assistant superintendent at Kokomo. Additionally, he was born and raised in Clinton County and is extremely familiar with the area.

“That is a huge advantage,” said Remaly. “Growing up and living in Clinton County my entire life. I do know a lot of people and I know the cultures in this area. I know what our community expects and that’s going to be one of our goals is we’re going to do what is right for our community.”

School Board President Katie Cohee said they had 11 applicants for the position, narrowed that down to six and interviewed three. She said Remaly was the unanimous choice of the board.

“We were looking for someone who can provide stability for Clinton Central and help the school grow in the direction we’ve been headed in already,” said Cohee. “We wanted someone to have the same goals as the board did to lead the school forward.”

Walker said Remaly will do a good job.

“Al will be great,” said Walker. “We’ve worked together the last three years and he knows most of the people in the county.”

Walker said it was time to move on.

“When I arrived here, we were $1.1 million in the red and now we have almost $3 million in the bank,” said Walker. “The elementary was an ‘F’ and now it’s an ‘A’. I feel I’ve been able to help my home community in the way I wanted to and it’s in good shape.”

Cohee added the board was hoping to find someone to do what Walker has been able to do.

“We are hoping to see a continuation of what’s been happening under Mr. Walker’s leadership,” said Cohee. “We’re going to continue to be an ‘A’ school. We want to lead the community, the county and even the state educationally.”

Remaly concurred.

“Clinton Central hasn’t always had the best reputation in the past 10 years,” he said. “We’re on the way up. In the past three years, we’ve made great strides. One of my goals is to keep it going to the point where we’re the best in the county again. I think working together we’re going to get there.”
