Richard Elvin Grove, 92, of Frankfort, passed away Saturday, June 9, 2018, at his home. He was born October 23, 1925, in Rankin, Ill., to James Ernest and Edna May Sweet Grove. On February 8, 1951, he married Helen E. Moyer; she preceded him in death on October 2, 2014.
In 1937, Richard and his family moved to Frankfort when the Roundhouse was moved. Richard was a 1943 graduate of Frankfort High School. From 1943 to 1946, Richard proudly served his country in the US Navy during World War II. Richard had formerly worked at Indiana Brass, Ingram Richardson, and Indiana Gas before working into his retirement at the Frankfort Public Library. He had also been the caretaker of the Odd Fellows Cemetery for 27 years.
Richard attended the First Evangelical Presbyterian Church and was a former member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Clinton Masonic Lodge #54, VFW, and American Legion, and a lifelong member of the Clinton County Historical Society.
Richard is survived by two sons, Samuel Ernest Grove (Debbie Michael), of Cartersville, GA, and Matthew Jay Grove (Cindy Rhine), of Frankfort; two daughters, Susan Elaine (Gary) Plunkitt, of Frankfort, and Sarah Eileen “Sally” (Jeff) Moore, of Frankfort; ten grandchildren, Brian, Nick, Andi, Luke, Joe, Mickey, Rose, Seth, Grace, and Sophie; and three great-grandchildren, Jett, Sonnet, and Magnolia.
Preceding Richard in death are his parents; brothers, Ed, Robert, and Harold Grove; sister, Esther Kesterson; and grandson, Jacob Ethan Moore.
Gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, June 16, 2018, at First Evangelical Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall in Frankfort, from 12:00 p.m. to the start of the Celebration of Life service at 1:00 p.m. Rev. Kelly Kurth will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Richard’s name may be made to the Clinton County Humane Society or Clinton County Masonic Lodge #54.
