Richard J. “Rich” Sterling

Richard J. “Rich” Sterling, 48, of Flora, passed away on Tuesday, December 14, 2021, at Community East Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born in Lafayette on December 5, 1973, to Lester Lee and Sandra Kay (Benge) Sterling. Rich is survived by his companion Holli Winegardner of Flora.

 Rich graduated in 1992 from Taylor High School in Kokomo. After graduation, he joined the Army. He worked for the Miami Correctional Facility for over 19 years where he was a correctional training officer. Rich was actively involved with his son Jordan’s racing team where he spent many weekends around the track. He played on multiple dart leagues, loved fishing and scuba diving, and was an instructor on shooting.

 Surviving Rich in addition to Holli are his children, Jordan (Tiffani) Sterling of Greentown, Kylie Davis-Sterling of New Mexico, Riley Wilson, Jozlyn Howard, and Gavin Howard of Flora; brother, Eric Sterling of Kokomo; and a grandson, Kohen James Sterling.

 He is preceded in death by his parents.

 A memorial service will be held on December 30, 2021, beginning at 4pm at the Genda Funeral Home~Rossville Chapel  450 N St. Rd 39, Rossville. Military rites will be provided by the United States Army and the Carroll County Honor Guard. Chaplain Kevin Conklin will officiate the service.
