Road Paving Will Begin This Summer in City of Frankfort

The Board of Works unanimously approved a bid of $696,200 from Rieth Riley for the road paving projects in the city of Frankfort Wednesday afternoon.

“Rieth Riley was the low bidder on a set of projects this year,” said Mayor Chris McBarnes. “I believe we’ll have 14 projects around the city, including a city parking lot on North Columbia Street.”

The following roads are on the road paving list this year. They include:

  • St. Mary’s Avenue from E. Wabash Street to Wilshire Drive.
  • Clay Street from Armstrong Street to Alhambra Avenue.
  • South Street from Eighth Street to South Main Street.
  • Boomer Street from Walnut Avenue to Dead End.
  • Kelley Road from Alhambra Avenue to South Jackson Street.
  • South Street from South Jackson Street to Coulter Street.
  • Green Street from North Jackson Street to Rossville Avenue
  • Eighth Street from West South Street to East Armstrong Street.
  • Clay Street from East Kyger Street to Washington Avenue.
  • Wilshire Drive from Hoke Avenue to South Maish Road.
  • Kyger Street from Walsh Avenue to Rossville Avenue.
  • West McClurg Street from John Street to North Main Street.
  • Prairie Street from Fairground Street to Freeman Street.
  • Parking Lot — City of Frankfort Lot north off Columbia Street.

With the bids coming in lower than expected, McBarnes said a couple of other streets will be paved this summer.

“We’re actually going to be adding another street onto our list,” said McBarnes. “We are going to look at paving South Columbia Street from Walnut all the way down to White and looking at the eastern portion of Kelley Road out to Maish and down to Alhambra. We are also working with the county to get that road stabilized overall.”

Street Superintendent Jason Forsythe hopes the paving can begin June 1 and ends by October 31.
