Robert Joseph “Joe” Rustin, 84, of Kirklin, Indiana, passed away Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Joe was born on November 20, 1935 to Daniel McKinnis & Annie Eleanor (Andrews) Rustin. Joe married Janice Louise Kelley on March 2, 1963 and she preceded him in death on October 20, 2018.
Joe served his country in the United States Navy for 20 years until his retirement. Following his time in the Navy, he worked in maintenance for General Tire, Orpack and World Color Press. He enjoyed hunting treasure with his metal detector, traveling, and was known as a voracious reader; however, his true passion was genealogy.
Survived By 2 Sons: Jeff (Jennifer) Rustin of Kirklin and Ken (Shannon) Rustin of Lebanon; 2 Daughters: Valerie Rustin of Forest and Sandy Davis of Acworth, GA; 7 Grandchildren: Dayton, Rebecca, Victoria, Allison, Rachel, Stephanie (Jordan), and Ricky (Linsey); 7 Great Grandchildren: Brody, Ryder, Dexter, Brooklynn, Rory, Keeleigh, and Kennedy; Step-Siblings: Kathryn Lee, Gwendolyn (James) Spears, and Woodrow (Claressa) Rustin all of Lucedale, MS; and Brother-in-law: Joe Nowlin of Jackson, MS. In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by 3 Brothers, Benjamin, Daniel and Sammy Rustin along with 2 sisters, Marie Nowlin and Annie Lucille Rustin.
Friends may visit 1-4 p.m. Sunday, January 26, 2020 at Goodwin Funeral Home, 200 S. Main St., Frankfort. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 27, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
