Robert L. Mitchell

Robert L. Mitchell, 94, of Frankfort, died June 18, 2024 at Wesley Manor.  He was born August 19, 1929 north of Jefferson in Clinton County, Ind. to George Virgil & Frieda Pauline (Wright) Mitchell.  He married Wilma Jean Coffman on April 17, 1949 in Frankfort and she preceded him in death on November 21, 2018.

Bob attended Frankfort schools and was a lifelong Frankfort resident.  He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1950 until 1954 during the Korean War.  He worked with the Frankfort Schools, Ushco Manufacturing, Stark & Wetzel and retired in 1982 from Del Monte as a production supervisor for 28 years.  Bob was honored by Mayor McBarnes with a Key to the City and October 15th was declared National Robert Mitchell Day.  He was a life member of the Marine Corps League and the Moose Lodge. Bob was also a member of the American Legion and the First Church of the Nazarene in Frankfort. He served as a Reserve Deputy with the Clinton County Sheriff Dept. for 15 years.  Bob was a crossing guard for the Frankfort Schools, and retired from that at the age of 92. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, bowling, puzzles, playing euchre and he and his wife never missed a sporting event of their grandchildren.

He is survived by his son:  Robert L. (Michele) Mitchell II of Thorntown, 6 grandchildren, Joey (Becky) Mitchell, Jana (Eric) Doyle, Bethany (Mitch) Williams, Brooke (Kyle) Wittgren, Madison Burgess and Brett Burgess and 8 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and spouse, he was preceded in death by brothers, Max Mitchell and Morris Mitchell and sisters, Charlotte Large and Marilyn Tinchner.

Funeral Service

Visitation will be from 10-12 Noon, Monday, June 24, 2024 at Goodwin Funeral Home, 200 S. Main St., Frankfort.  Funeral services will begin at 12 Noon at the funeral home with Pastor Gordon Smith officiating.  Burial with Military Rites will be in Jefferson Cemetery.  Memorial donations may be made to the Clinton County Cancer Fund.  Please visit goodwinfuneralhome.com, where you may leave a condolence.
