Rossville Defeats Clinton Prairie to Capture Sectional Volleyball Championship

Rossville won the sectional volleyball championship in Rossville Saturday night by defeating Clinton Prairie 3-2 (22-25, 25-21, 23-25, 25-18, 15-12).

The victory moves the Hornets to the Elwood Regional where they the second game of the morning semifinals against South Adams at noon. Madison-Grant faces Alexandria-Monroe in the first match at 10. Championship match is set for 7 p.m. Saturday. Winner advances to either the Huntington North or Frankfort Semi-State the following weekend.

In semifinal action earlier in the day on Saturday, Rossville defeated Fountain Central 3-0 (25-7, 25-15, 25-11) and Prairie defeated Carroll 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-17).

On Thursday night, Clinton Prairie defeated Seeger 3-2 (22-25, 25-20, 25-22, 16-25, 15-8) and Carroll downed Delphi 3-0 (25-23, 25-11, 25-23).

In the opening match on Tuesday, Rossville downed Lewis Cass 3-1 (21-25, 25-17, 25-11, 25-20).

Regional Cross Country

Senior Preston Padgett won the boys’ regional cross country race Saturday at Harrison in a time of 16:29.9. He qualifies for next Saturday’s Semi-State at New Prairie along with junior Nick Shedron (17;31.6) and sophomore Charlie Thompson (17:49.3). Junior Gabriel Freeman did not qualify after running a time of 18:04.6.

Sophomore Ariel Abbott (20:30.8) qualified for the girls’ race in New Prairie.
