Rossville Hornets Secure Weekend Victories In Delphi Tournament

The Rossville Hornets secured two victories over the weekend with the boys’ basketball team topping the Pioneer Panthers and the girls’ basketball team claiming victory of the Frankfort Hot Dogs at the Delphi Tournament.

The Hornets boys’ team narrowly secured their win against the Panthers with a final score of 52 to 56. The Hornets took an early lead in the first period, scoring 14 points compared to the Panthers’ 11. In the second period, the Hornets maintained their lead as halftime approached by scoring an additional 13 points to the Panthers’ 11. Following halftime, the Hornets continued their lead with 11 points to the Panthers’ 10. In the fourth period, the Panthers’ attempted to rise above the Hornets by gaining 20 points to the Hornets’ 18, but the Panthers fell short as the buzzer sounded by only four points. The Panthers’ largest lead over the Hornets was by one point in the first period while the Hornets secured a lead of 15 points in the fourth period before the Panthers began to close the gap once more.

Throughout the periods, the score was tied three times as the lead changed twice.

The Hornets girls’ team secured their victory over the Frankfort Hot Dogs with a final score of 40 to 28. The Hornets soared above the Hot Dogs in the first period, scoring 11 points to the Hot Dogs’ 3, continuing their streak in the second period by scoring an additional 11 points to the Hot Dogs’ 7, resulting in a 12-point lead heading into halftime. In the third quarter, the Hornets further leaped away from the Hot Dogs by scoring 15 points to the Hot Dogs’ 6. In the final period, the Hot Dogs attempted to close the gap with the Hornets, scoring 12 points to the Hornets’ 3. However, the Hornets ultimately secured victory with a 12-point difference. The largest lead the Hornets secured over the Hot Dogs was in the fourth period where they led by 23 points. The score was never tied nor did the lead change throughout the game.

Consolation round, Rossville Boys Fell To Winamac 56-43.

Top scorers in Friday night games were in the Rossville boys against North Newton were Caden Wilson and Jordan Skiles each with 12, and Charlie Thompson adding 11 points.
