Education leaders from across Indiana gathered at the Artificial Intelligence in Schools: Application in Use Seminar, hosted jointly by the Indiana Association of Public School Superintendents (IAPSS) and the Indiana School Boards Association (ISBA), to explore practical strategies for integrating artificial intelligence into K–12 education. One of the day’s most anticipated sessions featured Dr. James Hanna, Superintendent of Rossville Consolidated School District, and Dustin Shadbolt, the district’s Director of Technology, presenting Streamlining School Operations with AI.

In their interactive presentation, Dr. Hanna and Shadbolt demonstrated how AI-powered tools, such as ChatGPT, Grammarly, Otter.ai, and Gamma.app, are already reshaping central office workflows. By focusing on enhancing operational efficiency, streamlining communication, and strengthening community engagement, the duo illustrated how these platforms can simplify tasks ranging from meeting transcription and document drafting to press release preparation and crisis communication.
The session went beyond theory, offering live demonstrations of AI in action, including real-time meeting transcription, content refinement, and document generation. Attendees were encouraged to participate and consider immediate, low-cost ways to adopt similar tools in their districts. Dr. Hanna emphasized the importance of balancing innovation with responsibility: “AI is not about replacing people—it’s about giving our teams better tools so they can focus more time on what matters most: supporting students and staff.”
Shadbolt, known for his leadership in educational technology and cybersecurity, stressed the value of ethical implementation and data privacy when deploying AI solutions in schools. He also provided tips for maximizing results through clear prompts, fact-checking, and tailoring AI outputs to specific district needs.
The Rossville team’s presentation underscored a central theme of the seminar: AI is no longer optional—it’s an operational reality. By combining practical examples with actionable strategies, Hanna and Shadbolt left attendees with a blueprint for starting small, scaling responsibly, and fostering trust in AI-enabled processes across their communities.
