In a ceremony rich with tradition and symbolic meaning, the Rossville Chapter of the National Honor Society (NHS) formally inducted 18 new student members and installed its 2025–2026 officers in front of proud family members, faculty, administrators, and peers.

Held in the Rossville Middle-Senior High School auditorium, the ceremony opened with a warm welcome from current NHS President Natalee Richey, who recognized the importance of the moment. “This ceremony reflects the continuing emphasis on excellence that we represent for our school and community,” she said, noting the chapter’s ongoing commitment to service, academic achievement, and leadership that spans more than 50 years.

The audience was reminded of the NHS’s four guiding pillars—scholarship, Service, Leadership, and Character—each represented by a symbolic candle lighting and described in remarks from chapter officers. Vice President Elijah Washam spoke of scholarship as a commitment to curiosity and lifelong learning, while Secretary Noah Weaver emphasized the role of service in building empathy and fulfilling civic responsibility. Treasurer Jacob Moss highlighted leadership as influence through action and example, and Historian Allie Newbauer described character as the foundation of moral integrity and ethical decision-making.

Parliamentarian Gregory Sorenson, also the newly elected president for the coming school year, formally declared the eligibility of the new inductees, praising their achievements and potential: “Membership in the Rossville Chapter of the National Honor Society has been earned through effective demonstration of the four qualities that serve as standards for the Society.”

As the names of the new inductees, ranging from freshmen to upperclassmen, were read, the students stepped forward to light their candles, sign the official registry, and receive their token of membership. This year’s inductees include:
David Dickerson, Polaris Moore, Erika Rothenberger, Ava Spear, Zachary Wainscott, Cierra Barnett, Cooper Dunn, Leif Eller, Allie Elliott, Bridget Gochenour, Jaden Haynes-Santiago, Cooper Mills, Peyton Moss, Caydence Robey, Olivia Shutes, Kyndahl Streza, Max Tharp, and Katherine Thompson.

Following the induction, Sorenson led the new members in reciting the official NHS pledge, affirming their commitment to uphold the organization’s values.

NHS Advisor Mrs. Washburn took the podium to commend the new members and honor the accomplishments of outgoing officers. “These students have not only maintained exceptional academic standing but have also emerged as leaders within our school and greater community,” she said. “We are truly proud of each and every one of you.”

In a time-honored tradition, the outgoing officers passed their candles and pins to the newly elected leadership team. The 2025–2026 Rossville NHS Officers are:

President: Gregory Sorenson
Vice President: Audrey Thompson
Secretary: Kaybree Bogan
Historian: Allie Newbauer
Parliamentarian: Kaylyn Pinisetti
Treasurer: To be selected in August
Mrs. Washburn reminded both the new officers and the entire chapter of their shared responsibility to uphold NHS principles. “The world today needs faithful and efficient leaders,” she said. “Your chapter is looking to you to lead its members.”

The evening closed with remarks of gratitude from Sorenson, recognizing Mrs. Washburn and the induction ceremony committee for their efforts. Guests were invited to join the students for cookies and photos, concluding a memorable evening of recognition, reflection, and new beginnings.
