The Rossville Consolidated School District Board of Education addressed personnel changes, financial matters, policy updates and student programs during its regular meeting Tuesday, September 1.
The meeting included a public hearing regarding collective bargaining between the school district and the Rossville Classroom Teachers Association. Indiana law requires school corporations and teacher associations to provide an opportunity for public testimony regarding teacher compensation before formal negotiations begin. The district provided time for members of the public to offer comments related specifically to the collective bargaining agreement.
Personnel matters made up a significant portion of the meeting. The Board considered several resignations, including instructional assistant Megan Arnone, Assistant Speech Coach Linda Cleveland, and Spell Bowl Coach Taylor Mink. The Board also considered the resignation of Agriculture Education Teacher and FFA Advisor Jesse Davis, effective September 11.
Clinton-Carroll Joint Services was also on the agenda as the district addressed psychological services. Key Education Services submitted notice terminating its services effective September 1. The Board also considered a recommendation for Clinton-Carroll Joint Services to contract with Empower Services for psychologist services during the 2026-2027 school year.
The district presented several appointments as it continued filling instructional and extracurricular positions. Recommendations included Phyllis Hodson as Speech Team Assistant Coach and Annabelle “Aurora” Miller as a Tier I instructional assistant at Rossville Middle School. The district also presented substitute personnel, homebound instruction, and additional volunteer coaching assignments for fall athletics.
Community support for Rossville students was reflected in several donations presented to the Board. Archer Daniels Midland donated $1,000 to the FFA program, Keystone Cooperative contributed $500, and Clinton County Farm Bureau Inc. donated $275. Versiti, Inc. contributed $750 to the National Honor Society. Together, the donations totaled $2,525 in support of student organizations and activities.
The Board also reviewed its policy manual as part of the district’s ongoing collaboration with the Indiana School Boards Association. The Board presented a revised policy addressing bus discipline for a second reading. The district regularly reviews its policies to ensure they remain current and provide appropriate guidance for school operations.
Financial reporting requirements were also addressed. District officials reported that the 2025-2026 extracurricular activity risk report and annual financial reports had been completed and submitted before the August 29 deadline. Indiana law requires the reports, and the extracurricular and corporation treasurers compiled them.
In another matter, the Board considered a resolution regarding the controlled use of imitation firearms in approved Wildcat Creek Career Cooperative Criminal Justice, public safety, and safety-training activities. The authorization establishes requirements for educational use, direct supervision, approved equipment, secure storage, identification, and safety procedures. Each participating WCCC school must adopt the resolution.
The Board also considered using two school buses to provide shuttle transportation for the Parent Advisory Council’s Grandparents’ Day on September 25. Shuttle service is planned from Rossville Methodist Church and the Church of the Brethren to assist visitors traveling to and from the school.
Reports presented during the meeting highlighted a busy fall ahead for Rossville students. Scheduled activities include FFA competitions and educational programs, a college and career fair for juniors and seniors, and elementary field trips ranging from Hillside Acres to the Feast of the Hunters’ Moon.
The next regular meeting of the Rossville Consolidated School District Board of Education is scheduled for Tuesday, October 6, at 7 p.m. A budget hearing is also scheduled for the meeting.
