Rossville Consolidated School District announced the introduction of a literacy coach through the Indiana Literacy Cadre to the corporation to focus on highlighting strong literacy foundations for students in kindergarten through third-grade and beyond.
The district announced that Ms. Michele Houser, an educator with 30 years of teaching experience, will transition into the role of literacy coach through the Indiana Literacy Cadre. The district stated that the current focus is on younger students, but the opportunity presents potential expansion.
In her new role, Houser will work closely with teachers to support the creation of student-centered instructional programs that draw from specific student data to design tailored reading interventions and support. The programs will utilize evidence-based literacy strategies that align with the Science of Reading standards to help teachers focus on essential skills, such as phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension. The approach is intended to meet every child’s unique needs to maximize their ability to reach their full potential.
Rossville Elementary Principal Chad Dennison commented about the introduction of the programming that will be supported by Houser in her new role.
“Ms. Houser’s years of experience are a tremendous asset to Rossville Elementary,” Dennison said. “Her commitment to literacy and her expertise in fostering student-centered instruction will be transformative for our students and staff.”
Rossville Schools will continue to gain access to specialized resources designed to enhance literacy outcomes throughout the district through the Indiana Literacy Cadre partnership. Superintendent Dr. James Hanna commented about how Houser will utilize the resources to best address the needs of the students.
“We’re thrilled to have Ms. Houser in this new role,” Hanna said. “Her dedication to supporting personalized, evidence-based literacy practices will support our mission to provide every student with the tools for lifelong success.”
