Students from Rossville Consolidated School District’s Essential Skills Program took their learning beyond the classroom walls during an exciting field trip to Columbian Park and Zoo.

The outing was made possible through the success of the students’ very own coffee cart business, Hornets Brew Coffee Crew. Throughout the school year, students served hot and iced coffee, hot chocolate, strawberry lemonade, and cookies from the local Flour Mill to staff members each week. From preparing beverages and reading orders to delivering items and managing payments, students gained valuable hands-on experience in communication, customer service, and money management. Donations from JL Hufford Coffee Co. and the support of staff patrons helped fund this memorable trip.

Once at Columbian Park, the students explored the zoo’s exhibits, played in the park, and capped off their afternoon with lunch at Arni’s. A highlight for many was the train ride that offered a scenic view of the park’s grounds.

This field trip provided a meaningful opportunity for students to apply functional life skills in a new environment, while also promoting social interaction and physical activity. It was a day of learning, laughter, and lasting memories.
