Rossville Sweeps Sheridan in Girls’ Volleyball Action

The Rossville girls’ volleyball team honor Vickie Ritter by wearing their pink jerseys during Tuesday night’s matchup against Sheridan.

Rossville swept Sheridan last night with a JV win in three: 23-25, 25-18, 25-21; and a varsity win in three: 25-18, 25-13, 25-21. More importantly, last night’s match was Rossville’s annual Cancer Awareness Night. The Rossville players have dedicated their evening the last few years to someone local who is in need and in the midst of a battle with cancer. Last year, Rossville honored the Olivas family. This year, they chose Vickie Ritter.

Ritter works at the local CVS in Frankfort and is in the midst of her fight against cancer.  Vickie is someone who cares about her community, and has a true heart for animals. She has been involved with the Wag-A-Thon and other events in the community. The Rossville volleyball team thought dedicating their cancer game to her was one good way to help rally around her.
“I’m really proud of our girls,” stated Coach Kathy Martin, “Volleyball is more than just a sport, it’s about life, and I can’t tell you enough how proud I am that our girls have chosen to do this sort of thing for someone in our community for two years now.”
Ritter was present for the game last night, along with some of her friends and family.  A free will donation was taken, along with the sale of baked goods and t-shirts.  Between the JV and varsity game, over $500 had already been raised.  Vickie said after the game, “I appreciate that they chose me and worked so hard to raise money for me.  I can’t believe they raised so much. It was a wonderful surprise.  I am truly blessed.”
Rossville’s next match is against Clinton Prairie on Thursday.
