The 2025–2026 school year is off to a strong and purposeful start at Rossville Consolidated School District, thanks to the thoughtful planning and collaboration of its dedicated educators. In the days leading up to students’ return, teachers participated in a series of professional activities designed to prepare them for a successful year of teaching and learning.
The first official day back for staff was dedicated to meetings and essential safety training, including CPR and AED certification—an important annual reminder of the district’s commitment to student and staff well-being. On the second day, teachers welcomed students and families during orientation and open house events, helping set a positive and welcoming tone for the year ahead.
But it was on August 5 that the focus turned squarely to instruction. Teachers across all grade levels and subject areas engaged in a full day of professional development aimed at strengthening curriculum, refining assessments, and enhancing learning opportunities for every student.
“This day is about alignment, collaboration, and making sure we’re ready to meet the needs of all learners,” said Dr. Jim Hanna, Superintendent of Rossville Schools. “Our teachers are doing the foundational work that sets the tone for high-quality instruction all year long.”
Focused Planning and Alignment
The day began with teachers working in grade-level and departmental teams to review and finalize curriculum maps and Common Formative Assessments (CFAs). They assessed the completeness of their instructional plans, discussed available and needed resources, and shared strategies for effective implementation. Resources from the Indiana Learning Lab helped guide conversations to ensure curriculum alignment with the latest state academic standards.
“This kind of collaboration ensures we’re all on the same page,” said Sierra Hall, Rossville Middle/Senior High School assistant principal. “It helps us teach more effectively and respond to student needs more intentionally.”
Vertical Collaboration for Student Growth
Later in the day, educators engaged in cross-grade-level discussions to examine how student learning progresses over time. These vertical alignment sessions helped teachers identify strengths and gaps in instruction, particularly in English/Language Arts and Math, and offered opportunities to refine strategies for remediation and extension.
High school and middle school departments also used the time to review academic goals, share instructional resources, and discuss assessment practices in their content areas—including science, social studies, fine arts, physical education, and agriculture.
“Our goal is to provide students with a consistent and coherent learning experience from one grade to the next,” noted second-grade teacher Angie Bogan. “When we work together, we can better support students on their academic journey.”
A Strong Start for a Stronger Year
The day concluded with district-wide training on testing security procedures, ensuring all staff are well-prepared to uphold the integrity of assessments throughout the year.
Across all sessions, one theme was clear: Rossville educators are united in their mission to provide meaningful, high-quality learning for every student.
“We’re proud of the work our teachers are doing,” Dr. Hanna said. “Their professionalism, collaboration, and commitment to continuous improvement are what make Rossville such a special place to learn and grow.”
As students return to their classrooms, they’ll find teachers energized and prepared, ready to lead with purpose and guide them toward a year full of growth, achievement, and opportunity.
