The Rossville Hornets defeated the Carroll Cougars 3-0, winning the Sectional 54 Championship for the second year in a row.
“We’ve adopted the phrase that ‘we dont get to walk through, we have to fight through,'” said Rossville coach Lexie Ellenwood. “Every single game from here on out is going to be a dogfight and it’s one game a time, survive and advance, win or go home.”
After suffering just their third loss of the year in the conference tournament to Eastern, the Hornets had a chance to refocus before Sectional play began.
“That loss was tough,” Ellenwood said. “It was definitley an eye openeer on things that we need to work on. That was probably the best thing for us was just making it clear that we still have things to work on.”
The Hornets started the day with a win over Clinton Prairie to advance to the Sectional Championship. Rossville won 25-15, 25-16 and 25-16 to complete the 3-0 sweep.
In the Championship match, the Hornets were dominant, holding Carroll to 10 points or less in all three sets and sweeping the Cougars for the Sectional Championship.
Rossville advances to the Regional Championship against Northfield on Saturday at 4 p.m. The match will be played at Elwood high school.
