Russell Max Sheets, 97, of Frankfort, passed away July 29, 2025 at Wesley Manor with his family by his side. He was born November 16, 1927 in Frankfort, IN to Russell & Nelly (Wilson) Sheets. He married Norma Jean Avery on June 15, 1950 and she preceded him in death on November 11, 1993.
Russell Max was a 1945 graduate of Frankfort High School. He was a lifelong farmer, joining his father on the farm. Russell Max farmed without missing a planting or harvesting season for 69 consecutive years. He was also a longtime distributer and franchise owner for Weathermaster and Exide Battery. Russell Max was a member in Beard Masonic Lodge for over 60 years and Order of the Eastern Star (OES). He was an avid hunter and fisherman. When Norma required kidney dialysis, Russell Max was her caregiver operating the hemodialysis machine treating Norma for over 15 years at home. He was known for his pie baking ability, especially rhubarb custard pie, and making pecan pie mini muffins.
Russell Max is survived by his son, William Max (Lara Beth Hohenberger) Sheets of Fort Collins, CO, daughter-in-law, Megan Davis Sheets of Conway, SC, grandchildren, Elisa Beth Sheets of Oregon, David W. Sheets (Catherine “Cat” Fitzpatrick) of Cambridge, England, Erin (Mark) Arthur of Greenwood, and Russell (Bethany) Sheets of Frankfort.
He is preceded in death by his parents, spouse, son Richard A. Sheets (2005), and one granddaughter Annemarie Noelle Sheets (2025).
Visitation will be Tuesday, August 5, 2025 from 12 noon until the start of the service at 2:00 p.m. at Goodwin Funeral Home, 200 S. Main St. Frankfort, IN, 46041. Burial will be in Green Lawn Memorial Park. Memorial donations may be made to the Wesley Manor Employee Appreciation Fund, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
