Ruth Ann Smith

Ruth Ann Smith, 86, of Lafayette, formerly of Mulberry, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 10, 2026. She was born on August 26, 1939, in Mulberry to Loyal and Mary (Virgin) Troxel where she grew and graduated from Mulberry High School in 1958. She often shared fond memories of her younger days, especially stories of riding horses and enjoying life in her hometown.

A dedicated and hardworking woman, Ruth Ann was one of the first employees of Arni’s Restaurant, helping serve the community during its early years. She later worked at Home Hospital in Lafayette, where her strong work ethic was appreciated by both coworkers and patients.

Ruth Ann was known for her loving, joyful spirit and strong connections she built with others. She was an active member of the Women of the Moose and cherished the many friendships she formed through the Moose Lodge over the years.

Family meant everything to Ruth Ann. She especially loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was well known for her Sunday dinners, where family gathered around her table to share food, laugher, and conversation. Those moments together became treasured traditions and lasting memories.

Ruth is survived by her children, Kellie (Craig) Hills, Troy (Kate) Owen, and Brent Smith; her grandchildren, Alan (Jessie) Hills, Jessica Diekman, Mary Hills, Terran Patton, Chase Owen, Macgwyre Owen, and Madison Smith; and her great-grandchildren, Hudson Patton, Harrison Patton, Wesley Avila, Blake Diekman, Emma Dieckman, and Kelci Hills.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Sandra Goodnight; brother-in-law, Bernie Goodnight; and daughter Kimberly Owen.

Visitation will be held, Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at Day & Genda Funeral Home ~ Mulberry Chapel from 1 to 3pm. A graveside services will follow at Fair Haven Cemetery with Pastor Todd Ladd officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Women of the Moose.
