Ruth I. Schenck

Ruth I. Schenck, 91, of Frankfort, passed away at her home, Wednesday, March 11, 2020.  She was born March 22, 1928 in Harmony to Roy A. and Clara E. (Auten) Lawson.  Ruth was raised and lived in Harmony except for two years when she lived in Indianapolis.  She moved to Frankfort in 1946.

Her first four years of schooling were in a two-room school in Harmony before attending Van Buren Consolidated School in Clay County.  During WWII, her freshman and sophomore years of school, she attended Shortridge High School in Indianapolis.  Due to injuries she received in a bus accident at the beginning of her junior year, she was unable to return to high school.  In the later part of the 1960’s, Ruth took classes at Frankfort High School and graduated with the class of 1969 alongside her daughter, Teresa Hyde.  She married Hubert J. Hyde on December 23, 1946 and they divorced July 19, 1972.  She married Ernest W. Owen on August 26, 1972 and they divorced April 20, 1973.  She married Milton C. Schenck on January 18, 1975 and he preceded her in death on January 10, 2005.

Ruth was a homemaker and attended Community Christian Church.

She is survived by her children; James L. (Rebecca) Hyde of Owen Co., Teresa J. (Charles) Collins of Brenham, Texas, Clara L. Whitt (Companion Diane Unger) of  Terre Haute, Sue A. (Tim) Williams of Frankfort, and Marilyn E. Cole (Companion Paul Figge) of Noblesville; eight grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; sister Alice Morgan; and granddaughter, Paula Ann Skiles.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 14, from 12 pm until the time of the service at 1pm at Community Christian Church.  Pastor Tim Grasham will officiate.  Burial will follow at Green Lawn Cemetery.  Arrangements are with Genda Funeral Home in Frankfort.
