On April 16, 2025, at approximately 6:04a.m., the Kokomo Police responded to U.S. 31 and Center Road overpass for a motor vehicle accident. Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered a silver 2014 Chevrolet Equinox positioned at the bottom of a ditch. Additionally, a black 2000 Ford Excursion, was found overturned on its roof on the opposite side of the ditch. Tragically, the driver of the Ford Excursion was found deceased outside the vehicle.

From the preliminary investigation, 34-year-old Rebecca Henry of Galveston, In., was operating the Chevrolet Equinox and  traveling northbound on U.S. 31 approaching the Center Road overpass. Concurrently, the 2000 Ford Excursion was also traveling northbound on U.S. 31. It appears that the Ford Excursion collided with the rear-end of the Chevrolet Equinox, resulting in both vehicles entering the east side ditch. The Ford Excursion rolled over numerous times, causing the driver to be ejected.

The deceased driver has been identified as 41-year-old Charlie J. Bowman of Sharpsville, In. Bowman was unrestrained.  Rebecca Henry was not injured.

This investigation is ongoing by the Kokomo Police Department and the Howard County Coroner’s office. An autopsy has been scheduled for Thursday, April 17, 2025, by a forensic pathologist. Cause and manner of death are pending autopsy and toxicology results.
