Shirley E. Thomas, 81, of Frankfort, passed away on Friday, April 6, 2018, at Mulberry Health. She was born October 19, 1936, in Boone County, to Ralph and Thelma (McRoberts) Padgett. On August 6, 1966, she married Max E. Thomas Sr.; he preceded her in death on September 5, 2017.
In 1954, Shirley graduated from Lebanon High School and went to work as an operator at Indiana Bell in downtown Indianapolis and later Lebanon. After her marriage and move to Frankfort, she worked at Schulz Market for 20 years and later retired from the Farmer’s Bank after 19 years of service. Shirley loved to read and crochet.
Surviving Shirley are her sons, Michael (Tammy) Ham, of California, Max “Geno” Thomas Jr., of Frankfort, and Matthew (Andi) Thomas, of California; daughter, Jacque (Bruce) Kauffman, of Frankfort; step-daughters, Karen Blaney, of Lafayette, and Kathy (Dana) Hamalin, of Delphi; ten grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Dortha Mae Steelsmith, Barbara Zetterberg, and Charlotte Fife; and brother, Bobby Padgett.
A graveside service will be held 3:00 p.m. on Friday, April 13, 2018, at Green Lawn Cemetery in Frankfort, with Pastor Dave Klipp officiating. A casual gathering at Max & Shirley’s home will follow the inurnment until 6:00 p.m. Memorials in Shirley’s name may be made to Paul Phillippe Resource Center.
