Shirley Rue “Deak” Doke, 88, of Clarks Hill, Ind., passed away December 21, 2024 in her home. She was born on February 7, 1936 in Clinton County to Minor and Alta (Bowen) Smith. She married Wayne Doke in October 1955 and he survives.
Shirley was a 1954 graduate of Clarks Hill High School and was a homemaker. She worked for several years at Mark’s Grocery in Clarks Hill. Shirley was a lifelong member of Clarks Hill Christian Church. She enjoyed mowing her yard and loved spending time with family, especially her son and grandchildren. She will be lovingly remembered for her chocolate chip cookies and devil’s food cake with her famous caramel icing.
Surviving along with her Husband, Wayne are her Grandchildren: Amber (Scott) Miller of West Point, Andy Doke of Clarks Hill, Ashley (Shawn) Coleman of Colfax, and Aaron (Hannah) Doke of Clarks Hill; 10 Great-Grandchildren: Caitlyn (Brendan), Lily, Aubrey, Clara, Breyann, Wyatt, Charlee, Jeanna, Carter, and Carsten; Daughter-in-law: Sue Doke of Clarks Hill; Sister-in-law: Shirley Smith of Clarks Hill; along with several Nieces, Nephews, and Great-Nieces and Nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, son: Kim Doke, sisters: Marjorie (Bob) Hodgen and Nancy (Don) Perkins, brother: James Smith and a nephew: Randy Smith.
Friends may visit 10-11 a.m. Tuesday, December 24, 2024 at Clarks Hill Christian Church. A Graveside Service will follow at Union Cemetery in Clarks Hill.
