Shooting Incident On I-65 Leads To Arrest In White County

Reports of shots fired at a vehicle on Interstate 65 in White County led to the arrest of an Indianapolis man Monday night.

On March 17, just before 10 p.m., Indiana State Police Region 1 Dispatch received a call reporting that a vehicle had been shot at while traveling southbound on I-65 near the 193-mile marker, and the caller reportedly provided dispatchers with a description of the suspect vehicle.

Troopers responded to the area and located a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox traveling southbound on I-65 that matched the description provided by the callers, which reportedly prompted the troopers to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle to safely remove all occupants.

Detectives from the Indiana State Police Criminal Investigation Bureau reportedly responded to the scene to assist with the investigation where detectives reportedly located a firearm inside the vehicle that was later determined to be stolen. Further investigation reportedly revealed that the driver of the Chevrolet, George Collins, 43, of Indianapolis, allegedly fired at least one shot at the victim’s vehicle. The victim’s vehicle allegedly had what appeared to be a bullet hole in the windshield.

Collins was taken into custody and transported to the White County Jail on preliminary charges of criminal recklessness with a firearm, Level 5 Felony, possession of stolen property, Level 5 Felony and pointing a firearm, Level 6 felony.
