State Police at Lafayette Work the New Six Lanes of I-65

On Tuesday, troopers from the Indiana State Police at Lafayette Post patrolled the new I-65 six lanes that opened yesterday from just south of the SR 38 exit/168 mile marker to just north of the SR 25 exit/176 mile marker in Tippecanoe County. This has been two years in the making and should help alleviate traffic problems around the Lafayette area.

Six trooper worked the area from 7 a.m. this morning till about 1:00 p.m. this afternoon with speeds reaching over 85 miles per hour in the posted 65 miles per hour zone. Approximately 35 vehicles were stopped with 32 speeding arrests, 3 arrests for child restraint violations and 17 warnings for various traffic violations. There were 9 commercial motor vehicles stopped and inspected for safety and traffic violations.

Lieutenant Tom McKee, commander of the Lafayette Post stated “It is great to have the extra lane in both directions to help in easing the traffic congestion in the area. We also want to make sure that drivers are still operating safely and we will be cracking down on aggressive driving and speeding along this stretch of road.”
