Just after midnight Friday, police were called to the area of I-65 and Southport Road for reports of a possible shooting. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police were the first on scene and turned the investigation over to state police after determining the crime occurred on the ramp from I-65 southbound to Southport Road.
Preliminary investigation has revealed there were two victims in two separate vehicles, they each suffered a non-life threatening gunshot wound. One victim was the 16 year old driver of a black Chevrolet Impala, a passenger in that vehicle was not injured. The second victim was a 15 year old male, he was the driver and sole occupant of a red Chevrolet Malibu. Both victims were transported to Eskenazi Hospital.
Investigators believe the shots were fired from a black or dark colored car, possibly a Nissan with a large rust spot on the back. The vehicle fled the scene westbound on Southport Road.
This investigation is ongoing, crime scene investigators are currently on scene collecting evidence. There is no further information to release at this time.
