At approximately 7:20 p.m. Thursday, police officers were dispatched to the area of I-69 northbound near the 212 mile marker, just north of the Cyntheanne Road Overpass, for reports of a person shot. The first officer on scene was from the Fishers Police Department, he located an adult female with injuries consistent with a gunshot wound and applied a tourniquet to an injured arm. Further emergency aid was provided by police officers until paramedics arrived. The woman was transported by ambulance to an area hospital in serious condition, however her injuries were not believed to be life threatening.
Preliminary investigation by the Indiana State Police determined the 34 year old woman from Kentucky was a passenger in a white van when an object, believed to be a bullet, came through the window and struck her. At this point in the investigation, detectives have not determined where the bullet came from. This investigation is ongoing and the scene is still active.
