State Road 26 Crash Results in One Fatality

On Thursday, Deputies with the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office responded to a motor vehicle crash.  Clinton County Central Dispatch received a 911 call at approximately 6:11 a.m. reporting a head on vehicle crash on State Road 26, near County Road 1000 W, involving two passenger vehicles.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2004 Saturn Vue, driven by Kiera Williams, 23, of Lafayette, had been traveling westbound on State Road 26 and attempted to pass another vehicle.  While attempting to pass, the Saturn Vue pulled into the path of a 1993, Ford Ranger, driven by Troy Trent, 41, of Bringhurst, that was traveling eastbound on State Road 26.  The two vehicles collided in the eastbound lane of travel.  The Ford Ranger came to rest in a plowed field on the south side of the roadway.  The Saturn Vue came to rest in the middle of State Road 26.

Trent was pronounced deceased at the scene. Williams and her passenger, Quincy Smith, 25, of Lafayette, were transported from the scene, by ambulance, to IU Health Hospital in Lafayette for treatment. Williams was later transported to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. The investigation is ongoing. Alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor in the crash. The Clinton County Coroner’s Office and The Carroll County Coroner’s Office are also continuing an investigation into the collision. Also assisting on scene were the Indiana State Police, Rossville Fire/EMS and the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office. This case will be sent to the Clinton County Prosecutor’s Office for review and formal charging.
