Stephen ‘Steve” Kent Carter

Stephen “Steve” Kent Carter, 71, Russiaville, passed away Monday, November 22, 2021 surrounded by his family. He was born November 13, 1950 in Logansport, the son of the late Merle and Rheba (Johnson) Carter. On February 5, 1977, he married Carmen Moon in Twelve Mile, IN, and she survives.

Steve was a 1968 graduate of Clinton Central High School. He graduated in 1972 from Purdue University with a bachelor’s degree in animal sciences. After college, Steve worked at Hendrickson’s Grain Systems and with his father before quickly becoming a lifelong farmer for himself. Steve was a member of Russiaville Friends Church, where he served in many capacities and chaired many committees and attended Abundant Life Church. Steve was a board member of Heartland Credit Union, Howard County Farm Bureau and Western Howard County Young Farmers. His most loved activity was being a Papaw to his 10 grandchildren.

In addition to his wife Carmen, Steve is survived by his daughter, Stephanie (Curt) Knapp; son, Ryan (Carrie Miller-Carter); grandchildren, Alison, Alyssa, Carter, Alyse, Jacob, Collin, Caden, Colton, Chase, Calan, and soon to be Kenze in January 2022; siblings, Phil (Nancy) Carter, and Julia (Dennis) Hoffman; along with several cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, December 2, 2021, at Stout & Son Funeral Home, 200 E. Main St., Russiaville, with Pastor Billy Martin officiating. Burial will follow in New London Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family 4 pm to 7 pm Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at the funeral home.
