The National Weather Service in Indianapolis says at 11:17 a.m., Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from six miles west of Kokomo to near West Lafayette. Movement was southeast at 20 mph.
Torrential rainfall is occurring with these storms and may lead to localized flooding. Frequent cloud to ground lightning is also occurring with these storms. Winds in excess of 30 mph will be possible with these storms.
Locations impacted include Lafayette, Kokomo, Frankfort, West Lafayette, Tipton, Windfall, Greentown, Rossville, Shadeland, Dayton, Battle Ground, Mulberry, Russiaville, Sharpsville, Burlington, Michigantown, Kempton, Purdue University and Indian Heights.
No warnings or watches have been issued so far.
Also, there is a Heat Advisory that is still in effect until 8 p.m. tonight. High temperatures will be in the lower 90s with peak afternoon heat index values of 100 to around 105 degrees.
