Inside INdiana Business is reporting a bill allowing carryout sales of alcohol on Sundays throughout the state is moving forward. The Senate Public Policy Committee Wednesday afternoon voted 9-0 to approve Senate Bill 1, which now heads to the full Senate for consideration.
The bill would allow package liquor, grocery, convenience and drug stores to sell alcohol on Sundays from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Restaurants that meet certain requirements would be allowed to sell alcohol for carryout as well.
“For the past 10 months, I have been collaborating with big box and liquor stores, business owners and fellow lawmakers to create a bill that is simple, fair and reasonable,” Alting said in a news release. “I think the collaboration and simplification of this bill is key to pass it into law, and it will be beneficial and more convenient for Hoosiers.”
The vote followed debate in the House Public Policy Committee, which is considering its own version of the Sunday carryout sales bill. That committee did not vote on the bill Wednesday during its meeting Wednesday morning. Our partners at WIBC in Indianapolis report that vote is expected to take place next week.
