Inside INdiana Business is reporting the Indiana Senate bill allowing Sunday carryout alcohol sales is one step closer to Governor Holcomb’s desk. The Indiana House approved Senate Bill 1, which could allow for Sunday sales as early as March 4.
The House passed the bill by a vote of 82-10. The Senate must still vote to concur with the House amendment, though a date for that vote has not been set.
The Indiana Association of Beverage Retailers, which began the push for Sunday sales in November along with the Indiana Retail Council, released a statement Tuesday in support the bill’s passage.
“If successful, this legislation will take immediate effect once it is signed by Governor Eric Holcomb,” said IABR Chairman Jon Sinder. “Indiana’s small business package liquor stores are already preparing for this eventual conclusion by updating work schedules and when necessary hiring, training, and licensing new employees that attain our strict safety standards per Indiana law. We are excited for Sunday sales and will be ready to open our doors.”
If approved, the bill would give package liquor stores, grocery stores, convenience stores and drug stores the ability to sell alcohol for carryout on Sundays from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
