Inside INdiana Business is reporting a bill allowing Sunday carryout alcohol sales in Indiana is headed to Governor Eric Holcomb’s desk. The measure will take effect upon its passage, rather than waiting until July 1 when approved laws are typically slated to take effect. When the vote to concur was brought to the full Senate floor Thursday, Senate Bill 1 author Ron Alting (R-22) called it a historic moment for the state.
Thursday’s vote succeeded by a 38-10 margin. Last week, the bill that included the key timeline amendment cleared the House 82-10. If the legislation is signed into law, the sale of alcohol on Sundays at licensed retailers will be permitted in the state from noon until 8 p.m.
When Alting introduced the House Concurrent Resolution to move the bill to Governor Eric Holcomb’s desk, he said “I respectfully ask for members to vote yes in favor of this and making history in Indiana, allowing Sunday sales and carryout on Sunday. Thank you, members of the Senate.”

The Indiana Association of Beverage Retailers congratulates the Indiana State Senate for voting today to concur with Senate Bill 1 which will send this historic piece of legislation to the Governor’s desk. This is only the latest milestone in the long legislative process that we expect to end with Hoosiers being able to purchase alcohol for carryout on Sunday for the first time since prohibition.
