Technology Plays Hero in Arrest of Theft Suspects in Boone County

On January 31, Boone County Communications was notified by 3SI Security Systems about a theft that occurred from Ulta Beauty in Lafayette. 3SI had a tracker on the stolen merchandise and was getting live alerts. 3SI was able to see the tracker traveling at highway speeds on Interstate 65 South, entering Boone County. The store was unable to give any vehicle description but had video footage of the suspects in the store.

Utilizing state-of-the-art tracking technology provided by 3SI Security Systems, they provided our dispatch with instantaneous location updates and vehicle speeds. In the absence of a vehicle description provided by the store, dispatchers collaborated closely with law enforcement officers, leveraging the real-time tracking capabilities of the 3SI system to relay updated information regarding the whereabouts of the stolen items. Lebanon Police Officers located the vehicle thanks to the seamless communication from dispatch and 3SI live updates. Lebanon Police conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle, which resulted in the apprehension of the two suspects and the recovery of stolen merchandise from Ulta Beauty.

A similar event took place on December 19, 2023, which led Lebanon Police and the Boone County Sheriff’s Office on a pursuit. The theft suspects then bailed on foot from the interstate into a nearby tree line in the woods. The suspects were later apprehended, and the stolen merchandise was recovered.

A member of 3SI Security stopped by the Boone County Dispatch Center yesterday to present a challenge coin to the Officers and Dispatchers involved.
