At Monday’s Board of Works meeting a local not-for-profit organization was bestowed with honors by Frankfort Mayor Judy Sheets, 10,000 gallons of unleaded gasoline were added to the city’s upcoming fuel bid, the availability of a parks grant requiring no matching funds was shared with the Board, and the TPA Park winter concessions stand agreement was approved.

The Arc of Clinton County recognized
Mayor Sheets read a proclamation declaring Nov. 1 Extra Mile Day in Frankfort and presented the award to The Arc of Clinton County which offers advocacy, education and support to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families. Sheets pointed to the group’s volunteer work, including holiday parties, Special Olympics, sensory kits for the police department, an autism support walk, and a special-needs prom. “The Arc of Clinton County doesn’t just go the extra mile. They make the journey better for everyone along the way,” Sheets said.
Sandy Stevenson, the group’s Executive Director, accepted the award for the organization and credited the group’s partners. “If it wasn’t for all of the individuals and organizations that assist us, we couldn’t put on the things that we do,” she said.
On November 1, over 500 cities proclaim Extra Mile Day – a day of recognition for inspiring individuals who unselfishly “go the extra mile” and volunteer in their local communities.
Police fuel bid boosted after gas allotment ran out in August
City officials told the board the police department’s gas allotment had exhausted its full fuel allotment for the year by August, spurring a raise in the unleaded amount in the bid notice from 60,000 to 70,000 gallons, which is what Police Chief Shoemaker recommended. The fuel bid first came before the board at its Oct. 13 meeting, but the city held off on sending the bid notice to the press while officials discussed whether to raise the gallon amounts.
The bid also covers 50,000 gallons of diesel fuel which the board left where it was. Members said they knew of no department having trouble with diesel supply, even though the police department’s new equipment runs on diesel. The motion also lets staff publish the amended notice on the dates listed in it.
Parks grant needs no local money
The three-member board also backed an application for a $100,000 parks planning grant that requires no local match. The board voted to let Mayor Sheets and Park Superintendent Ryan Edgar sign a support letter for the city’s application for the grant. This item was not on the printed agenda.
“This is a $100,000 planning grant for parks,” said Emily Gray, Park Supervisor. “This is phase one of a multi-million dollar grant” adding that the city would not have to put up any matching money. “It’s a pretty good deal,” she said, and a board member answered, “Don’t see that very often.”
Winter concessions at TPA Park
The board approved an agreement between the city and Danyelle Eason to run the TPA Park concession stand from Nov. 1 through May 1. The agreement can be extended into the spring season. Officials said the concessionaire usually serves the park’s Festival of Lights.
Other business
The 2027 meeting schedule for the Board of Public Works and Safety and the Common Council were approved. Both will keep meetings on the second and fourth Mondays of each month. When a meeting date falls on a holiday such as Columbus Day, the meeting moves to Tuesday.
Members also approved the Oct. 13 minutes and claims. Nobody spoke during public comment. A job description item under human resources was held for a later meeting.
