The Farmers Bank Marks 150 Years of Community Banking

Today, The Farmers Bank proudly celebrates its 150th anniversary, marking a century and a half of service, trust, and commitment to the communities it calls home.

Founded on June 17, 1876, in downtown Frankfort, Indiana, The Farmers Bank opened its doors at a time when Rutherford B. Hayes was preparing to become President of the United States, the telephone had just been invented, and America was celebrating its Centennial. Over the past 150 years, the bank has witnessed extraordinary changes in technology, transportation, commerce, and society, while remaining steadfast in its commitment to helping individuals, families, businesses, and communities thrive.

A Legacy 150 Years in the Making
What began as a local community bank serving Clinton County has grown into a financial institution with more than $1 billion in assets, serving customers across Central Indiana. Through generations of economic growth, national challenges, world-changing events, and community milestones, The Farmers Bank has remained rooted in the belief that banking is ultimately about people.

The significance of the milestone is difficult to overstate. Over the course of 54,785 days, The Farmers Bank has helped customers purchase homes, start businesses, grow farms, save for college, prepare for retirement, and navigate life’s most important moments. The institution has also invested millions of dollars and countless volunteer hours into supporting local organizations, schools, nonprofits, and community initiatives throughout Central Indiana.

More Than a Bank
“One hundred fifty years is an extraordinary achievement, but this milestone is not about the bank itself. It is about the people who have made it possible,” said Chris Cook, President and Chief Executive Officer of The Farmers Bank. “Every customer who entrusted us with their financial future, every employee who chose to serve others, every director who provided leadership, and every community that welcomed us has played a role in this story. While much has changed since 1876, our purpose remains the same: to care, educate, serve, and inspire. We are deeply grateful for the trust placed in us over the past 150 years and honored to celebrate this historic day alongside the communities we proudly serve.”

Join the Celebration
To commemorate the occasion, The Farmers Bank is inviting customers and community members to stop by any financial center location on Wednesday, June 17, and join in the celebration. The first 50 visitors at each location will receive a complimentary slice of anniversary cake. Guests can also participate in special anniversary activities, including chances to win gift cards and prizes. Younger visitors can enjoy a family-friendly game for the opportunity to win a Culver’s gift card while supplies last.

As The Farmers Bank reflects on its rich history, today serves as both a celebration of the past and a moment to look toward the future with optimism.

For 150 years, generations of customers have trusted The Farmers Bank with their financial dreams and aspirations. A responsibility we have held in high regard and will continue to do so well into the future. Today, the bank pauses to honor that legacy and extend its heartfelt gratitude to the communities that have made this milestone possible.

A group of local leaders established a bank they hoped would serve their community well. They could not have imagined the generations of customers, employees, families, businesses, and communities that would become part of that story.

The Farmers Bank stands as a testament to what can be accomplished when trust is earned, relationships are valued, and communities come together.

To the community of Frankfort, thank you for your trust, your partnership, and your support across generations. 150 years of community banking is a remarkable legacy, and one that is truly worth celebrating.
