At approximately 1:38 p.m. Tuesday on I-65 southbound near the 189 mile marker (that is one mile north of the SR 18/188 MM exit) vehicles had slowed for a car fire when a third vehicle failed to see traffic slow and ran into the rear of the slowed vehicles sending three to the hospital.
Preliminary investigation by Trooper Corey Dupuy and Probationary Trooper Michael Risley has shown that a gray 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Joseph R. Holliday, 22 from Olmstead, KY was SB on I-65 in the right lane when he failed to slow for a black 2015 BMW driven by Adedapo Ajayi, 35 of Chicago who had slowed for a vehicle fire. The BMW then was pushed into a gray 2013 Volvo XC6 driven by Samuel B. Hanson, 36 of Griffith, IN.
The BMW and Tahoe were towed from the scene while the Volvo sustained only bumper damage and was able to drive away.. The interstate was shut down for approximately one hour for removal of injured and cleanup of the scene. All three injured were taken to IU Arnett Hospital with non- life-threatening injuries except for Ajayi who is listed in serious condition. No citations were issued at this time. The investigation is continuing.
