Timmons Wins Commissioners Race Over Incumbent Woods

One incumbent fell in the Clinton County 2020 Primary Election Tuesday night.

Incumbent Steve Woods fell to challenger Mark Timmons in the Clinton County Commissioners contest for District 1. Timmons finished with 2,075 (55.11 percent) to 1,690 (44.89 percent) for Woods.

In the Clinton County Council where five individuals were vying for three positions, the three incumbents Mike Hensley, Jeff Chynoweth and Clark Beard turned back the challenge of Lewis Wheeler and Bechel (Frankie) Crew. Hensley was the top vote getter with 2,585 (26.37 percent) followed Chynoweth with 2,253 (22.98 percent) and Beard with 2,086 (21.28 percent). Wheeler was fourth with 1,712 (17.46 percent) and Crew finished fifth with 1,168 (11.91 percent).

For Clinton County Coroner, Ed Cripe defeated Josh Lee 1,977 to 1,822. Cripe had 52.04 percent of the votes to 47.96 percent for Lee.

Uncontested winners were Justin Hunter (Clinton Superior Court Judge), Beth Keeney (Recorder), Carol Bartley (Treasurer), Dan Sheets (Surveyor), and Josh Uitts (Clinton County Commissioner District 2). Bartley resigned her position after the ballots were printed to become Frankfort City Clerk Treasurer. Gina Brettnacher was named Clinton County Treasurer in a caucus to replace Bartley. Her name will appear on the November ballot.

A total of 19,384 votes were cast which is 25.6 percent of the county.
