Tippecanoe Sheriff’s Office Warns Citizens of Scam

The Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office is wanting to warn citizens of a scam. This is the second time this has occurred in 2019.

Phone calls are being made by a male caller portraying to be a member of the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office. Two names of actual members of the sheriff’s office were used today in the scam. In today’s incident, the victim received a phone call from (765) 423-1544 and were told they had a bench warrant out for their arrest for missing jury duty. The victim was told to clear this legal issue, they were to purchase pre-paid Visa cards from Kroger or Office Depot, then provide the numbers from the card.

The Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Department does not contact citizens by telephone and ask for payment for warrants, writs, missed court dates or jury duty.
