Tommie Lee Cook, 85, of Chatham, Illinois, passed away peacefully at his home on January 24, 2025.
Tom was born on February 1, 1939, in Frankfort, Indiana, to Charles Herbert Cook and Thelma Maxine Cox. He is survived by his half-sister, Judy Fortman.
For 65 years, Tom was the beloved husband of Edile Joan Cook. He was the devoted father of Charles Markley Cook and the cherished grandfather of Ceres Markley Cook. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Ruth (Ron) Hibbard of Frankfort, niece, Edile Woodruff, and nephews, Bruce and Bryce Hibbard.
Tom earned a BA in Business Administration from Franklin University. During his time at Franklin, he was a proud member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity, serving as president his senior year. He dedicated 37 years of his career to Phillips 66, culminating in his role as Director of Marketing. Tom thrived in the field, traveling to meet with customers and building strong, lasting relationships. He found great satisfaction in connecting with people face-to-face, earning their trust and respect through genuine interactions. He disliked the confines of corporate desk life and was happiest when he was out “shaking hands” and building bonds that often turned into lifelong friendships.
A lifelong lover of music, particularly jazz and vocal harmonies, Tom was a dedicated member of The Four Freshmen Society. In his leisure time, he also enjoyed attending jazz festivals, spending quality time fishing with friends and family, and pursuing his passion for woodworking. He crafted beautiful tables, clocks, rocking cradles, and trains, which will be treasured heirlooms passed down for generations.
Tom was actively involved in his community, holding memberships in the Kentucky Colonel, the Optimist Club, the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, and as a Sublime Prince of the Royal Secret 32nd degree. He was also a proud member of the Masonic fraternity.
Tom will be cremated, and his remains will be entombed with his beloved wife, Edile, upon her passing, at Green Lawn Mausoleum, Frankfort. No services will be held at this time. Clinton County Crematory and Goodwin Funeral Home, 200 S. Main St., Frankfort are assisting the Cook family. Please visit goodwinfuneralhome.com, where you may leave a condolence.
