Challenges in maintaining the pool presented themselves soon after the water went in the TPA Park Pool this year. Before opening again, significant repairs must be made.
The City Council gave their nod of approval to seek options from the community on what their views might be for the future of the facility. The Board of Works accepted a proposal from HWC Engineering to implement a feasibility study. Travis Sheets, Parks Superintendent said, “HWC Engineering has a track record in successful aquatic projects and has worked on projects in Lebanon and others around the State”.
A committee of six individuals have been selected to begin the dialogue before it moves to a community forum. According to Sheets, along with himself, the committee members are: Wanda Mitchell, representing the City Council; Jim Siegfried, representing the Board of Works; and community representatives, Angel Marcum, David Howe and Erin Swinford.
Mayor Chris McBarnes said, “Quality of place has and will be a continued focus of our administration. In order to attract families to live in Frankfort, we must provide a stunning amenity infrastructure. This should include a state of the art aquatic park which provides people of all ages the ability to have fun in a safe space. I believe the level of citizen engagement in this process is absolutely outstanding and I look forward to hearing about the vision this group casts. Frankfort is moving forward and a logical next step is to provide a new aquatic park for our citizens to enjoy. I look forward to working hand in hand with the City Council in order to bring this to fruition”.
Sheets encourages the citizens of Frankfort to participate in an on-line survey to help guide the process, “we will be accumulating the data from an on line survey to help format a plan”. The link to the survey is: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/TPApool
