Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest of Marion Woman for Drugs

Tuesday night, a traffic stop by Indiana State Police Trooper Edward Titus led to the arrest of Amber Baty, 25, Marion.  Baty was incarcerated in the Grant County Jail to face criminal charges for possession of methamphetamine, possession of a narcotic drug, unlawful possession of a syringe, synthetic identity deception, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

At approximately 11:33 p.m., Trooper Titus initiated a traffic stop on a 2006 Pontiac passenger car, near Fourth and Branson Street in Marion. The Pontiac allegedly had an improper display of a license plate that was also false and fictitious. As Titus was speaking with the driver, later identified as Baty, she purportedly provided false identifying information. Further investigation revealed her identity. A Marion police officer, and his narcotic detecting police dog, arrived to assist. The police dog conducted a free air sniff around the Pontiac and indicated the presence of narcotics. During a subsequent search of Baty and the Pontiac, officers allegedly found methamphetamine. heroin, approximately 200 syringes (some used and some new), smoking devices, and drug paraphernalia. Baty was also issued a citation for driving while suspended, improper display of a license plate, and false and fictitious plate.

Baty was taken into custody and transported to the Grant County Jail.
