Trooper Arrests 19-Year-Old Lafayette Man After Reckless Driving Incident On I-65

An attempted traffic stop for speeding resulted in the arrest of a 19-year-old West Lafayette man following a short pursuit on Interstate 65.

On April 3, just after 9:30 p.m., an Indiana State Trooper reportedly attempted to stop a 2021 Toyota Camry for traveling in excess of 100 miles-per-hour in a posted 65 miles-per-hour zone on Interstate 65 near the 169-mile marker. The trooper reportedly observed the vehicle passing another car on the right shoulder while traveling at high speeds.

As the trooper attempted to catch up to the vehicle, the driver allegedly turned off the headlights and taillights before exiting I-65 onto State Road 38, continuing westbound before coming to a stop just east of Veterans Memorial Parkway.

The trooper allegedly took the driver, who was identified as Colin Kidwell, 19, of West Lafayette, into custody without further incident, and he was transported to the Tippecanoe County Jail. Kidwell was arrested on preliminary charges of resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, Level 6 Felony, aggressive driving, Class A Misdemeanor, and reckless driving, Class C Misdemeanor.
