ISP Investigating Deadly Crash Near 96th and Michigan Road

Just after 2 a.m. Thursday, emergency crews were called to the scene of a serious crash on Michigan Road involving a passenger car and an Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) plow truck. The crash occurred on northbound Michigan Road just south of 96th Street on the city’s northwest side. Medics from Pike Township Fire Department, along with officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were first on scene. They found the driver of the car unconscious and unresponsive, that driver was later pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the INDOT truck was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

According to investigating officer, Senior Trooper Jordan Hall, an INDOT plow truck was stopped in the left turn lane on northbound Michigan Road preparing to turn onto westbound I-465. A 2017 Toyota was northbound on Michigan Road when it veered into the turn lane struck the right rear of the stopped truck. At the time of the crash it is believed the northbound traffic had a green light and the truck was stopped due to the left turn light being red.

The crash is still under investigation, alcohol is not believed to be a factor in this crash. There is no further information to release at this time. Names of drivers involved and photos of the crash scene are being withheld until family members are notified.
