On April 4, just before 5 p.m., officers with the Lebanon Police Department reportedly responded to a serious motor vehicle crash involving one vehicle on Interstate 65 near the 135-mile marker northbound in Lebanon.
Upon arrival, officers were reportedly informed that two individuals had been ejected from the vehicle, prompting officers to immediately shut down both northbound lanes and southbound lanes of I-65 to secure the scene and render aid.
First responders began administering life-saving measures to the ejected individuals, including a 12-year-old female who was found breathing and conscious. She was transported to a local hospital in the Indianapolis area for further medical treatment.
The department reported that a 14-year-old male was also ejected from the vehicle and sustained fatal injuries, being transported to a hospital in the Indianapolis area where he was pronounced deceased.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as Taylor Kammes, 35, of Illinois, was transported to an Indianapolis area hospital for a blood draw in accordance with Indiana’s Implied Consent law. Other vehicle occupants were also transported for evaluation and treatment.
The crash remains under investigation.
