Two Individuals Arrested for Drugs After Traffic Stop

At approximately 9:50 p.m. Monday, a traffic stop by Indiana State Trooper Steven Glass led to the arrests of Vareck Louis Cannon Jr, 24, and Christian L. Arnett, 24, both from Kokomo. The pair was incarcerated in the Howard County Jail to face preliminary criminal charges for dealing in methamphetamine, possession of a narcotic drug, possession of methamphetamine, and dealing in a narcotic drug. Cannon faces additional charges for possession of hash oil and resisting law enforcement. Arnett faces an additional charge for operating a vehicle with a schedule I or II controlled substance in his body.

Trooper Glass initiated a traffic stop on a 2012 Chevrolet passenger car, on Washington Street near Sycamore Street, for an unsafe lane movement and improper display of a registration plate. The Chevrolet was driven by Arnett. While Glass was speaking to Arnett, Glass allegedly smelled a strong odor of burnt marijuana emitting from the Chevrolet. Glass also noticed indicators that criminal activity might be afoot. Kokomo Police Officer Noah Moody arrived to assist. While Glass was speaking with Arnett, Cannon allegedly exited the vehicle and ran away. He was quickly captured by Officer Moody.

During a subsequent search of the Chevrolet, Arnett, and Cannon officers allegedly found methamphetamine, a digital scale with methamphetamine residue, heroin, and hash oil. Further investigation revealed that Arnett was purportedly driving under the influence of marijuana.
