Monday, January 19, 2026 just before 1:00 p.m., emergency responders were called to a serious crash on U.S. 40 near the intersection of County Road 600 E. just east of Greenfield. When first responders arrived they found two heavily damaged vehicles, inside one of them was an unresponsive adult male. Despite life saving efforts, the man was pronounced deceased at the scene. The second vehicle was occupied by an adult and two children, none of which suffered serious injuries.
Preliminary Investigation by Trooper Ryan McKnight determined 43 year old Bryan Burris of New Palestine, was driving a 2003 Honda southbound on 600 E. He did not stop at the stop sign at U.S. 40 and struck the side of a westbound Ford F250, after the collision Burris’s vehicle rolled over.
Indiana State Police Crash Reconstructionists responded to the scene to assist. The circumstances of this crash are still under investigation and there is no further information to release.
ISP was assisted by the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office, Greenfield Police Department, Carthage Fire Department, Greenfield Fire Department and the Hancock County Coroner’s Office.
