United States Letter Carrier in Kokomo Held at Knifepoint

At approximately 1:48 p.m. Monday, officers were sent to the intersection of Locke St. and Dixon St. in reference to a United States letter carrier being held at knifepoint.  Upon arrival, officers located the female letter carrier.  She told KPD officers she was delivering mail in the neighborhood when she was approached by a black male who wanted a package that was addressed to a vacant residence.  The letter carrier informed the male he couldn’t have the package.  The male approached her several times during her route and she told him each time he couldn’t have the package.  The letter carrier went to her mail truck and the male approached her again.  He grabbed her, put a knife to her back and told her he wanted the package.  While holding her, he attempted to locate the package in the mail truck but couldn’t locate it.  The male ran away from the scene.

The suspect was described as a light skinned black male, in his 20’s, 6-00 tall, thin build, short hair, clean shaven wearing a dark hoodie with a zipper and dark pants with a muti-colored design on the sides.  The suspect was a passenger in a black or dark blue, older, small truck (similar to an S-10).  The truck had a cracked windshield on the passenger side and was driven by another black male.

While searching the area, investigators located the suspect vehicle at a residence on East Broadway Street. Investigators searched the residence and found two males hiding inside the residence. The males were transported to the Kokomo Police Department for questioning. As a result of the investigation, 23 year old Elisha D. Graham was arrested for Attempted Robbery, a Level 3 Felony.
