The Utility Service Board decided it was time for improving a water main supply line under the railroad tracks as part of the Washington Avenue project Monday night.
The preliminary cost estimate of the project is approximately $103,000 and Chairman Mike Kelley said this was something the board decided to do for the residents in that area. There have been issues with the water main leaking water in the area due to the age of the line, which is 65 years old.
The project is to fix the water main crossing under the Norfolk & Southern Railroad at Aughe Street. This portion of the Washington Avenue project is scheduled to be completed in time to meet the scheduled Stage 3 submittal to INDOT in October, assuming initiation of the additional design phase work is done by June 28.
Compensation to Norfolk & Southern to look at the project will cost the USB $8,570.
